Shaker Village

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, KY. A nature playscape that blends site-appropriate natural play elements within an historic Shaker community.

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill connected with the CAPN to design a nature playground for the increasing family visitorship to this National Historic Landmark. Shaker Village values such as ingenuity, sustainability, and engaged learning led them to the decision of creating a nature playspace. CAPN worked alongside the Shaker Village team through site visits, stakeholder meetings, and design charettes in order to create a custom design that blended within the historic space.

Children run along large rocks arranged in a spiral-shape that can be used as an obstacle course or meditative feature.

This site plan was used to convey the conceptual design of how the play elements would fit into the existing space, around various fences, trees, and pathways.
