Free Play Opportunities at Bernheim Events
Free play opportunities have become a regular part of many Bernheim events. We have had more than one parent remark about the amazing power of free play to captivate the imagination and attention of their children. One parent told us “we brought our kids out to this amazing festival, but our child simply wanted to tie sticks together to make a fort the entire time.”
Children have an amazing capacity to entertain themselves in ways that are meaningful to them for reasons we don’t know much about. But we don’t really have to know those reasons. In a world where many parents have concerns with over scheduled lives it’s nice to know that there actually is a way to design environments and opportunities where children can take care of themselves. Playgrounds don’t often do that because playgrounds are mostly environments where children play ON things. Free play environments provide opportunities where children can play WITH things. And those are vastly different things.
Please come out to some of Bernheim’s free play days offered in association with our events. Specific dates and times can be found here.
Here’s a few photos from some of our recent free play days.
