The Children at Play Network team was delighted to host a team from Common Earth Gardens and St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church recently. They are interested in creating a natural play area that might serve as a place for children to play while their parents and caregivers focus on the work of growing healthy food in their garden plots. It might also serve as a resource for the children at the church.
Marissa Beinhauer, Community Agriculture Coordinator, and Jane Evans, Program Director of Common Earth Gardens organized the visit. Common Earth Gardens is a project of Catholic Charities of Louisville.
After the visit Marissa communicated…
“It was incredibly informative and Claude gave us some really great starting points for us to go forward with the playground. … – we walked away from the meeting with some concrete, affordable and easily executable steps.”
And Jane said…
“I absolutely love the Playcosystem. While there, and after, I felt refreshed and happy. It was like going back to my childhood and appreciating the simplicity and beauty of the designs, just like nature intended! Why would we possibly need anything artificial?”
We at the CAPN absolutely love these kinds of visits since our vision for natural outdoor play goes well beyond our borders. We want to move the needle for outdoor play environments within our entire region. We can’t wait to see what might happen at Common Earth Gardens.
