Teachers from eight different Montessori schools visited Bernheim on Saturday, April 30th for a five-hour teacher training session led by CAPN trainer Kim Tabler. Using Playcosystem as an outdoor play laboratory the teachers each explored ways to embrace outdoor play in their learning. Montessori educators are already steeped in the value of play in learning but there are always new ways to incorporate play into even the most unexpected parts of the learning day. The workshop was organized by Christie Kessinger, the Professional Development Coordinator at Providence Montessori School in Lexington, Kentucky. Here’s what Christie said after the training…
“Thank you so much for hosting our training. It was fantastic! I have to say, my favorite quote came from one of the participants; “I’m in nature on a beautiful KY spring day, talking about how to help my students play more constructively, at one of my favorite places – Bernheim – and getting training hours all at the same time! This is the best training course I’ve ever been to!”
The eight schools participating included:
- Good Shepherd Day School – Lexington
- St. Agatha Academy – Lexington
- Providence Montessori – Lexington
- Holding Hands Montessori – Berea
- Capital Day School – Frankfort
- Villa Madonna Montessori – N. Ky.
- Montessori Experience – Georgetown
- Danville Montessori – Danville
Here are some additional anonymous quotes from the evaluations:
“I loved this training so much. We have done some trainings on this individually and I was happy to have more of our team hear these wise words. I was especially happy to have a trainer with such a wide background. I loved your encouraging to push back on limits that we impose that we need to challenge…”
“This was the best training I have ever attended! I want to do more trainings here.”
