Natural playground offers an alternative to the traditional metal playground structure, with elements such as tree logs, stumps, boulders, plants, paths, water features, which offer opportunities for children to play, explore, imagine, take healthy risks and build lifelong connections to the natural world.
The Children at Play Network offers consulting services to schools, childcare centers and non-profits interested in developing natural play spaces. To date, CAPN has worked with eight different groups with assistance ranging from site evaluation to full plan development with drawings and budget suggestions.
With a new natural play space under construction at Bernheim, CAPN will be well positioned to provide a regional laboratory for natural play that provides teachers, administrators and interested groups the opportunity to observe various elements to see what might work in their settings.
