Over the past several months Bernheim staff members have been meeting with Nelson County Schools teachers and administrators to foster a renewed relationship. On Friday, August 13th about 60 teachers from Nelson County Early Learning Center visited Playcosystem to gain insight and inspiration for how play based learning might engage students both in the classroom and out. Here’s what Teresa Henderson, Director of the NCELC had to say about their visit…
“Today the Nelson County Early Learning center preschool visited the Playcosystem at Bernheim and listen to Claude Stephens address the importance of play on the development of a child’s psyche. It was such a powerful experience for my staff. It not only energized us, it propelled us forward to thinking what we could do better at the ELC, what are we already doing great, and what can we start implementing this year. Over the past two years we have been studying nature play based curriculum as well as the philosophy of the Reggio Emelia approach to education along with the importance of allowing children to have a say in their education. Today was a very powerful experience that encouraged us forward on what we have already been building for the last two years. We would like to thank Bernheim for being open-minded and willing to allow children to learn naturally and for Claude Stephens’ passion and knowledge and his way of expressing this information in an understandable manner that all educators need to hear.”
