The Seeds for Urban Play(SUP) is a special initiative of the Children at Play Network in partnership with community-based organizations to address inequities and lack of access to safe spaces to play outdoors, which affects children of color disproportionately. Play Cousins Collective (PCC) of Louisville, KY, became the newest CAPN partner in the effort.
Through this partnership, CAPN and PCC extended outdoor free play opportunities to 250 children in 2019, both at Bernheim and in the West End of Louisville. But more than that, the two organizations developed an authentic relationship that went beyond coming together to deliver programming. Through this work together, PCC and CAPN explored new ways of relating and new “rules of engagement” that guided our work as equal partners to create more opportunities so that every child has a place in nature where they feel free, safe, healthy, empowered, and joyful.
We thank our generous sponsors, the Lift a Life Foundation and Brown-Forman Corporation for supporting this important work.
